The development of floriculture in Yunnan started from the end of 1980s. In beyond 10 years, with the care and support of the government, the hard work of tens of thousands of farmers, the great efforts of many enterprises, and by utilizing the exceptionally gifted natural conditions sufficiently, Yunnan has become the strongest province of flower industry in China.
Till the end of 2000, the planting area of flowers and greenery nursery stock of the province has reached 62000mu, with a total output value of 2.2 billion Yuan, earning foreign currency of 5.5 million USD through export, including the production output of 1.3 billion pieces of fresh-cut flower, which ranked the first in China for a consecutive period of 6 years. The production mainly adopted the structure of enterprises as the sponsor and the farmers as the main body, and from 1999, the production showed the tendency of upgrading, and the way of planting began to transit toward high input, high technology, broad-scale and professional. Yunnan is the largest production base of fresh-cut flower of China, with the sales volume of fresh-cut flower around 50% of the domestic market, 80% of the flowers sold to beyond 70 large and medium domestic cities, and 10% of the flowers exported to countries and regions which including Japan, Thailand, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
To improve the comprehensive quality and level of floriculture in Yunnan, accelerate the development and realize the industrialized production, on November 8, 1997, the enterprises, institutions and flower-planter collectives which engaged in producting, processing, saling, scientific research and shipping in Yunnan participated voluntarily and formed a special economic cooperation organisation—Yunnan Flower Industry Federation, which was approved by the provincial government and granted with certain administrative functions. The establishment of Yunnan Flower Industry Federation marked that the Yunnan floriculture entered a new stage of development. The flower enterprises and planters of Yunnan would go on the road of joint development gradually, and more support would be obtained from the government.
The flower industry, as one of the mainframe industries of Yunnan in the future, has mounted the road of industrialized development firmly. We are justifiable to believe that as a rising industry, the development of flower industry in Yunnan will be boundless, and the beautiful flowers will certainly set off Yunnan (which is called“south of colorful clouds”) more and more beautiful. |
